HEADQUARTERS XV FIGHTER COMMAND (PROV)

APO 520 US ARMY

16 October 1944

SUBJECT: Commendation.

TO: Lieutenant Colonel Ben A. Mason Jr., 0-21563 A.C.

1. I wish to commend you for the courage and skill that you displayed during your combat tour with this Command.

2. You were assigned to the 82nd Fighter Group in May 1944 as Deputy Group Commander and since that time you have flown forty-eight combaat missions, averaging approximately five hours per mission.

You destroyed two and one-half enemy airplanes in the air and at least five on the ground, in addition to destroying other enemy materiel by strafing. Your combat work has been characterized by consistent willingness and ability to fly any type of mission, consequently you have led many hazardous strafing and dive-bombing misions in addition to escort and sweep missions.
Your courage and skill as a pilot have been demonstrated on many occasions in combat and your efforts have contributed considerably to the effectiveness of your Group.

D. C. STROTHER,
Brigadier General, USA,
Commanding.
