Covering

The next major step is to cover the airplane with a light weight dacron material. I plan to cover the rudder first, to get my feet wet, before going on to more complex shapes. (January, 2003)

Here is the rudder covered.

It went on pretty nicely -- a lot of fun! I am using Poly-Tak to cement the fabric to the frame.

I am covering the fin next. But before I got too far along I had an EAA Designee from our local chapter ( EAA Chapt. 32) come out and review my work. He made several minor recommendations and said that I could continue with the fabric cover. He recommended that the next inspection be scheduled when the aircraft is ready for certification inspection (ready for flight)!!!!

The elevator being covered. (April, 2003)

I have completed covering the tail surfaces.

The ailerons are next. (June, 2003)

I put the covering on in one piece. It went well. It really looks loose before the heat shrink!

This is the end of the aileron before it is finished and the before shrinking the fabric.

The finished ailerons. (Aug, 2003)
