Our TV Experiences

I got a call from the Maury Povich show, and they asked if we would like to appear on the show. Well of course I said "yes", they told me the date and said they would call back to make all the final arrangements...So two days before the show, they called and said a Town Car would pick us up at the house at 6:00AM, well this didn't go over very well with me (Haven't seen that hour in years) LOL, but again I said "ok"...They also asked if I would like to bring someone with us.I.told them yes I would...
The show was to be about " Are you known because of your Pet" ? Well, that is certainly true in my case...
The next thing was, could you bring a few of Jimmy's outfits? Answer: "Sure how many"? so they said" bring three." Now I have to go out and buy a Garment Bag, so maybe we would look a little professional... Then of course, I had to have his Groomer come the day before the show, so he would be squeaky clean and his coat would shine. It's a Mommie thing...LOL
Jay (the groomer) let him run up the steps to the house, as I opened the door, he said there is blood on the stoop..Well, now we both panicked, got him in the house, and check and the tumor on his foot scraped and was bleeding....Jay and I bandaged Jimmy's foot, and of course all we thought about was the TV Show...Now what??
OK, problem solved, I went to one of Jimmy's dresser drawers and got out one of his boots, just happens to be blue, so it would match the Superman Outfit..On goes the boot, and everyone calmed down, we can still do the show....
Well, I made sure my boy went to bed early the night before,I decided to stay up all night, because I would have to get up at 4:00AM and I didn't want to oversleep... So our friend Alicyn got to our house a bout 5:45AM and the car arrived right on time...The driver took the Garment bag and put it in the trunk, then we all got into the car...We were sure to hit traffic on the way to New York City...
We arrived in front of the Studio and the driver complimented me on Jimmy's behavoir in the car, he had turned around several times during the trip and smiled and said"I'm just checking to see if he is still here, he is so good"
When we went inside, we were met by Angela, the Producers Assistant, she took us to one room, but there was a man there with a Boxer that was not dog friendly, now on to another room, where we were offered coffee, juice, bagels etc..
and Angela leaves...The next thing we knew she is back, and says" come on we are going to Jama's (the producer) Office", she said for you to wait there...So we did...Jama came in to say "Hello" (forgot to tell you she is a friend)...We talked a bit, then she left...
We waited quite awhile, then she came for us and we were going to the "Green Room"---yes there is a Green Room..lol. That did not work out very well, by the time we got there, the Monkey that was going to be on the show destroyed the room, he broke a glass table in the lobby too...there were tissues all over the room, knocked down plants, it was a mess....Now they had to find a place for the Monkey and clean up the room...So we kind of waited in the large hallway....Jimmy had a shirt on that said" I (heart) Love Maury". At one point, Maury came down the hall for coffee and chuckled when he saw the shirt and said "cute"...Next the Hairdresser came over to me, and said she was going to do my hair...OK
No special make-up as we weren't supposed to be on stage, only in the first row of the audience...No problem with that...
Now Jama returns and apologizes for not coming back sooner, said she had to rehearse the other people, I just looked at her and she said" Oh Aunt Gert you don't need rehearsal" I don't?
You'll be fine was her answer...LOL
Now off we finally go to the studio, only to find out the daily show had just finished, and they were going to tape this show...
So she brings us to the first row seats, with Jimmy and I on the aisle and Alicyn next to me..
They had someone up on stage, and the show was about to start.... they were warming up the audience, telling them when to clap and so on...Oh Boy, this could be a problem....I called Jama over and told her whenever people clap, Jimmy will Bark, she then went to the sound guy and he said no, we can't have that...So we went on the outskirts of the audience and stage....She called us in for the second segment...backin the same seat. Maury came from the rear, then walked over to talk to us, as he was walking away, my boy lets outa "Wooo" Startled, Maury turned around and looked at him and everyone laughed...
I think Jimmy was saying "Yo - Maury you didn't talk to me...."
After that I kept him quiet and we left again after that segment.....
Then Jama came for us and said we were to be in the Finale up on stage....You see the Producer can change anything she wants, so unrehearsed off we go....This is when Jimmy wore the Superman Costume.....There were quite a few people on the show, that were known because of their Pet..So we were all up on stage
They ran a little costume contest with the audience voting, and a real cool Cat won, I am not being funny, the cat wore sunglasses and a shirt and a hat, he was too cute, he deserved to win...
So after that, Maury went to each person and thanked them for coming...The music started to close the show, and the people clapped, and guess whose mouth went....Yep Awoo Awoo and on this went until the show closed....I had looked over at the sound man, and he just waved his hand and said "let him go".. Well OK, this was not a problem for Jimmy.....
Even the people on stage were laughing...This all took place on April 28,1998 and the show aired May 19,1998.
