THE WEEKLY HOWL
OCTOBER 15, 1999
Woof! Woof! Hello everyone! Welcome to another issue of my stories here at the doghouse. Since this is the Halloween season, it seems only fitting that I tell you a Halloween story about my family. Every year we have a Halloween party. Last year my mistress dressed us dogs up in costumes even! I was dressed as Superman, er, Superdog. Newman was a robot and the cats were dressed up, too; Misty and SnowPuff were dressed as Raggedy Ann and Andy ragdolls, Tang was dressed as a bandit, and Keedie was dressed as a kitchen witch. My mistress put doll clothes and costumes on all of us. My costume was an honest to goodness real human child's Halloween costume. But that's not all. My mistress dressed up in a costume, too. She was dressed as a dog, Spuds MacKenzie! She would go to the front door in costume to give treats to the kids who came trick or treating in our neighborhood. She'd go to the door dressed as Spuds, with her mask, mittens, and big furry paw slippers, and give out candy that way. Sometimes the looks on the children's faces were just priceless. Some of them actually looked surprised! No child goes to a house expecting to see an adult in costume on the other side of the door giving out treats! So it was great fun for all of us. Us dogs got treats, too, doggie treats! We got our pictures taken in our costumes, while we each held a Jack-O-Lantern in our mouths (the handle, not the pumpkin itself). I did my own tricks of shaking hands and speaking for treats. (I have to do a trick to get a treat.) Newman just barked and wagged his tail for his treats. Then we got to eat wonderful, beefy dog biscuits. Sometimes we got bits of real hamburger and roast beef slices, too! There were also scarey ghost stories on tv. Yep, believe it or not, I look at tv. I watch the stuff on the screen and listen to the sounds on it. I don't understand it all, but lots of times I see a cat or another dog up there. And I love to watch that! My mistress thinks I'm funny because I sit there and stare at the tv just like she does! One time we had a thunderstorm on Halloween, and boy, was that ever scarey along with the ghost stories and the ringing door bell! Newman is afraid of the thunder and lightning. He likes to run away and hide in the bedroom. The cats hide, too! But not me. I trust my mistress to protect me. I'm a very brave doggie. Anyway, that's how we celebrate Halloween. With lots of treats and fun and scarey Halloween ghost stories, it's sure to be a fun holiday every year! We hope you have a happy Halloween and get lots of treats for yourself, too! See you next time!
Your Faithful Friend,
Brownie
