THE WEEKLY HOWL
OCTOBER 22, 1999
Woof! It's Halloween, well, almost! This is that special time of the year when one's thoughts turn towards eating. I mean, afterall, Halloween candy, Thanksgiving turkey, all kinds of Christmas goodies, etc.!!! Well, that reminds me of the story of the ghost dog. The picture of the ghost dog you see here is me, but the real ghost dog was Ian, a german shepherd male whose picture can be seen elsewhere on this website.
One time not long after Ian died, this was very close to Halloween, strange things began to happen at our house. My mistress found a waste basket overturned and crumpled papers scattered all over the floor. This was in an area of the house where no pets are allowed. Because we are all barred from entering this room (by means of a closed door), none of those of us who are living could have dumped the waste basket and scattered the papers. It was a real mystery who did this! Of course, this was something Ian used to do when he was alive..... Next, clouds of smoke were seen in the hall, and one of the other dogs living with us at the time, a toy manchester terrier female named Sissie, suddenly jumped up from her sleep and began looking at an invisible something in the room that only she seemed to be able to see. She even growled and barked at this invisible something. My mistress then had a dream in which Ian came and brought her the gift of a dead possum he had killed (he did this all the time when he was alive, he used to kill the possums that dared to trespass in our back yard). Then we actually saw a fleeting glimpse of Ian walking in the hall and coming into the house from the front yard, when the door was open to let the rest of us dogs in from outside. Well! We decided we had a ghost dog in our house. Ian had died, but he hadn't left! Of course, this was a friendly ghost, so nobody got hurt. After a brief time, the haunting stopped and we didn't see him any more. But we always figured that Ian came back to let us know that he was okay and still with us. It was a comforting thing for our mistress to experience. Just an interesting little Halloween story, although not scarey at all. But I thought I'd tell you about it just for fun! Have a Happy Halloween everyone and I'll see you here next time! Woof woof!!!
Your Faithful Friend,
Brownie
